We are passionate gardeners and collectively there are more years than we care to mention on experience, and for most of the team these years have been at Dans Plants. We welcome you to visit our nursery and meet us in person, even Dan himself, or please find our contact details below. We look forward to hearing from you.
Dan 'The Man' is addicted to work, fresh air and plants. This combination has grown his small business into a large-scale operation. After high school, Dan began an engineering degree, but he couldn't stand being indoors. That's when he discovered his passion for plants, and so he and a friend began selling palms at universities and markets. By 1995, Dans Plants was established as a small business, which has grown to employ over 30 people today.
Passionate about food, and famous for his pizza making, Dan is head cook on Pizza Friday for the staff at the nursery. He creates a positive, friendly vibe that you can feel as soon as you step into the place, customers and staff having fun is important to the boss.
Together with his wife Anita, they have three children. Work, family and the Geelong Football club are the most important things in Dan's life (not necessarily in that order).
Dave, Dan's oldest son, has been involved in the business since the tender age of five when he planted his first cactus seeds, and his future was sown. After completing a bachelor of commerce Dave officially joined the team in 2011. His passion for technology and efficiency led him to implement new systems and protocols that have improved the day-day operations of the business. Dave organises the production planning, importation of goods, staff management and sales. Dave has an incredible work ethic (Danny and Dave compete to see who gets to work earlier) and keeps the team positive and motivated.
Like his father, he is a passionate supporter of the Geelong Football Club and enjoys travelling and exercise.
Sales and Procurement Manager
Dan's younger son Michael has also been part of the family business from a young age. He oversees the Sales department, interstate purchasing, logistics and human resources.
After completing a degree in banking and finance at Monash University, he chose the path to go into the family business. His passion for horticulture and selfless nature make him a great team player, always willing to offer a helping hand. He too is a Cats supporter and a massive sports enthusiast.
Landscape Sales Manager
David is married with two young children. His passion for plants guided him to an advanced diploma in horticultural science, landscape design and business management.
With eleven years at Dan’s under his belt, he’s done it all: production planning, label designs, IT, product sourcing, uniform procurement, you name it. David loves travel and the St Kilda Football Club (you can imagine the tension in the office come finals).
He is dedicated, passionate and a great bloke to work with.
Import and Office Administration
Carolyn has played a large part in the Dan’s team for over nine years. Her cheerful smile is a warm welcome for many returning, and new customers.
She has an advanced diploma in horticulture and organises all import permits and relevant documents, as well as range of office duties, and sales orders.
A Bachelor of business has provided Sheridan with 20 years of experience in book-keeping and accounting. Prior to her five and a half years at Dan’s, Sheridan was a finance manager for a large company but she saw the light and made the move to Dan’s.
With two kids and a husband, family time and activities together are a very important part of her life. She is a passionate Melbourne Football Club supporter (oh oh), and has been a member for thirty years.
Kylie has been with Dan’s for thirteen years. She has a diploma in horticulture and throughout her time at the business, Kylie has had her finger in many pies: office administration, trimming and plant maintenance, pest and disease prevention, watering and irrigation.
Kylie loves her garden and enjoys surfing in summertime and snowboarding in the winter.
Birju grew up in India, and moved to Australia in 2006. Together with his wife, they have two young children who are their pride and joy. His diploma in horticulture and hard-work for seven years at Dans has led him to become the watering manager.
Birju also manages the arrival of new stock and fertilising programs. He is a kind family man who is dedicated to his work, and is of great value to our team.
Nik also grew up in India and moved to Australia in 2006. As the production manager, Nik runs our fully automated greenhouse. Over his eight years at Dans, Nik has learnt to maintain machinery, manage the production team, and schedule watering and fertilising programs.
He is a dedicated, hard-worker who loves his career. With a wife and young son, Nik is a family man at heart, enjoying movies and the cricket.
Over his sixteen years at Dans, The Smiling Toeuk has seen it all. He is a dedicated, hard worker, who has managed various divisions over time. Currently, he is our first aid and occupational health and safety manager, who also has a certificate in horticulture.
In recent years, Toeuk has learnt to repair greenhouse and fabricate steel. Toeuk is a passionate fan of the Collingwood Football Club (Oh, no) who enjoys to travel with his wife and four kids.
Damien maybe quiet but when he says something everybody listens. With ten years of experience at Dans, Damien is a dedicated dispatch manager who coordinates stock control, delivery schedules, provides good customer service and assists in the occupational health and safety department.
Damien has a certificate four in horticulture. He too is a family man, with two kids.
